A stonemason’s workshop in Antwerp from 1904, structurally sound, thermally hopeless, and dark.
We stripped the interior back to the original timber trusses and replaced the failing north wall with a single glazed plane. Nothing else in the shell was touched. Insulation went to the roof, where it was needed and where it would not read.
Completed 2021 and still working as a workshop. Heating demand fell by 71%; the trusses are now the only thing anyone photographs.
